i keep writing editorials about youtube, but can you fucking blame me? first the lonelygirl15 phenomenon, now the google buy? for $1.65 billion?
to put it in perspective, rupert murdoch only paid $580 million for myspace. "only."
this is going to be an interesting year for DRM legislation, as well as google's legal expenses. my initial reaction is: good, this means google can leverage more from suing entertainment companies who will try to get youtube to DRM the fuck out of their videos.
on the other hand, regardless of google's relatively large financial estate, they may be in a losing battle here, considering how sticky the situation can get. youtube's method for removing copyrighted content is somewhat inefficient right now... they remove when asked, but they are somewhat tedious about it and the clip in question is bound to be reposted again. whatever comes out of future legal suits with these companies will set the precedent for future uses of online media, that can be guaranteed.
and if you think i'm using my blog as a space to blurt out my gut reactions to this mind-blowing piece of news ($1.65 BILLION?), which will then turn into fodder for my editorial/possible media industries piece this week, you are effing right.
meanwhile, on the karaoke front...
partners in crime: melissa, who will sing, of course. dom, who we will try to get drunk enough to sing.
songs i'm thinking of performing: "toxic" by britney spears, "these boots are made for walking" by nancy sinatra, "float on" by modest mouse.
amount of alcohol i will probably consume: low to moderate amount. this is to ensure that i have enough buzz to get up on stage and not care if i'm making a fool of myself, but also so i can sober up shortly thereafter to drive. also, hangovers suck when you've got co-op interviews the next day.
in other news...
my blog: is sucking a lot lately. i know.
apologies to: everyone. i don't have time to read your blogs right now, or comment.
thanksgiving dinner: rocked. thank you sean and christine!
use of colon in this blog entry: saturated to the point that i am deleting it from my grammar memory as i type. there, it's gone. what's a colon? did you mean mr. powell? or that thing that controls my poop?
