don't want to do this because i need sleep

but it has to be said. as sean mentioned, the conservatives are no real threat considering the little power they have as a minority government. my criticisms towards the conservatives has less to do with their fiscal policies, which, by the by, aren't too brilliant either, e.g. the promise to cut the GST. in fact this particular platform goal is suspicious because of its almost impossible nature, making it appear that the conservatives said it for political gain rather than trying to make this country better.

i mostly take issue with their regressive/apathetic positions on social issues, such as gay marriage, aboriginal issues, multiculturalism, women's rights, and such. this is where they greatly differ with other (mainstream) parties, and while i respect their different opinions and am glad they exist in the political spectrum, the majority of canadians sincerely don't believe in their ideologies. in fact many people i know who voted conservative did so because of "fiscal accountability", not t really giving too much thought to their social stances, because it either didn't occur to them, or they couldn't give a rat's ass.

fair enough; we all have our different priorities. my real issue with stephen harper as PM is the fact that by being in such a position, you truly are the representative leader of a nation, and when your ideology does not match the nation's to a largesse, then why should we have any faith in you? and how can canada truly be represented globally when our leader doesn't represent our best interests? put aside the fact that the concerns of canadians are diverse in themselves. we can still come together and as a majority agree on some aspects of what makes canada worth living in.

and now to correct my views as to how mlah phrased them:

re: corruption - yes of course it exists in any government, regardless of the political orientation of the party. that was never my point so please stop putting words in my mouth.

the abortion comment was facetious because i am facetious. certainly, abortions are not what makes a nation "great." having decent civil rights such as the ability to have an abortion on the other hand, is something that makes this country great.

oh and another thing: the liberal party is not "leftist" - i understand in the US of A they would be considered left of centre, but in canada, they are not. you're thinking of the NDP.
