for sale: 2001 mazda protege se
things i will miss about this car:
1. being able to say that i bought the car with my dad when i was only a sweet sixteen'er.
2. having my own shiny brand new car in the eleventh grade.
3. being probably the first kid in my class to drive to school by myself.
4. car washes with the stuff that smelt like tooth paste.
5. doing 140kmh on the queensway and not getting caught.
6. singing along to music as loudly as i possibly can, while other drivers would stare at me.
7. blasting the bass and watching the side view mirror rattle.
8. driving my friends home, to school, to work, to shopping, to anywhere.
9. going for drives just for the fun of it. driving is a wonderful escape and can be really stress-relieving. i'm gonna miss it a lot.
10. sitting in the car simply to listen to music. specifically, that sunny windy day during grade 12 when vanessa and i escaped oac production duties and just chilled out in the car, relaxin', listenin' to sigur ros, being dreamy and lovin' every moment.
11. driving to starbucks on my spares. oh yeah and that one day when i drove my friends to starbucks during both spares AND after school (or was it during lunch?)
12. discovering new albums/music. especially any album by the white stripes and radiohead's amnesiac. oh yeah, and david byrne's "u b jesus" on repeat.
13. skipping school.
14. driving over the funnest road bump EVAR, on cresthaven drive.
15. the two times i was caught in a speed trap (the same one!) and managed to escape, ticket and demerit point free.
16. making mix cds. realizing they suck. realizing i have absolutely no talent when it comes to making mixes. continuing to make them anyway, suckage or not.
things i won't miss about the car:
1. car payments, car maintenance, skyrocketing gas prices.
2. getting yelled at by father about scratching the car. but i never did. the scratch occurred after leaving it parked whilst in perkins restaurant. the repairs cost $200.
3. getting yelled at by father for using the car too much.
4. getting yelled at by father for wasting gas.
6. getting yelled at by father for giving people rides. to the point that he actually took a yogurt container, labelled it "gas money", and made a slit at the top so my friends would donate gas money. how mortifying.
7. winter. driving. all-season tires. ouch.
8. forgetting to pump the brake when swerving down a icy road. i fuckin HATE winter driving!
9. the two times my car had to be towed.
10. the fact that it was automatic. we bought it that way on purpose - i was too stupid to learn standard at the time, so my parents bought the car auto so i wouldn't kill anyone. now we all regret it immenseley, because.. well.. stick kicks ass.
11. the horsepower on this thing. it's like 120-130, our 323 only has 80 ponies, and can STILL go faster because the 323 is manual, and lighter. oh well.
12. the motherfucking car alarm. i only use it when i'm parked in a neighbourhood i know is not safe or am not familiar with, because otherwise i forget that i turned it on and then open the door and ... wananananblamamama.. yeah. lots of fun. not to mention embarrassing.
13. the time i got a speeding ticket. ok, it wasn't that bad. in fact it was kind of amusing. i was doing 137kmh in an 80 zone. the cop brought it down to 114kmh and gave me 4 demerit points, and i had to pay i think around $150.
14. parking tickets because i'm a fuckin idiot who can't read fuckin parking signs. fuck!
16. being the designated driver. bring on the booze!
that's about it. i will miss this car a lot. it was the first car i ever semi-owned and it's got a lot of sentimental value. if anyone's interested, there are more pics available at my dad's web site.
