radiowho?

radiohead. radiohead??? radiohead!!! yes there is radiohead news for the first time in ages, and not just one item but several. first off: the boys finally have a blog. it is quite cute because their web design skills haven't changed at all since they launched their site in the mid nineties. dead air space has no permalinks and quite the messed up archiving system. but regardless, frequent updates by my favouritest band in the world is just heaven on earth to me.. this is almost as good as the radiohead msgboard back in '99, where they used to randomly visit and talk to us. i remember i asked thom once to visit my webpage, which at the time was hosted by geocities and consisted of some really shitty html, pictures of astroboy, and random quotes by people and thoughts by me. he actually looked!! and responded!!! to my message and said i had a "very good set of ideas", then scolded me about the pop-up advertising. do i ever miss the 90s-era net days.

in other radiohead news, thom is debating whether or not he should meet up with tony blair to talk about global warming (he is a representative of friends of the earth), saying he's not sure if it's a waste of his time. i say it is, but what's the harm in trying? other than perhaps becoming more bitter (and i don't blame him).

apparently, jonny and phil (as well as jarvis cocker) play the wyrd sisters in the upcoming harry potter movie, the goblet of fire, which is pretty much making me orgasm with joy right now at the thought that a few of my favouritest 90s musicians will be in one of my favouritest book-to-movie series. unfortunately, there's some bad news too. see, there is also a canadian folk band named the wyrd sisters. after being approached by warner bros this year to share the name, they turned down the offer.
they are now suing warner bros, as well as phil, jonny, and jarvis. i understand their reasoning for wanting to protect their name; as kim baryluk, one of the wyrd sisters said, "Warner Bros did not do their homework. They have made huge publicity splashes about their wyrd sister band. If we go anywhere new now, people will show up expecting the boys from radiohead to be there. Their wyrd sisters will have global impact. We will be seen as the imposters. Can you imagine the abuse we'll get then? This is not about greed, because we expect that the money will win as it always does and that is not us."

but i don't believe suing phil, jonny and jarvis is quite fair. or even warner bros. while baryluk says warner bros. is only now deciding to retract the name from the movie, according to radiohead management and warner bros, this was already the case.

pitchfork covers the main details.
